To do my they arrived yesterday oh perfect great timing they arrived yesterday so with this is called the morning after horn hangout uh no the morning no the morning after horny hangouts tomorrow um the morning after because you’ve all played the schumann concept well not all of you actually someone had the night off right i was there i i went to the concert it was the first time the audience a regular audience was invited in the benroya hall in more than a year and it was uh it was fantastic we were very spaced out in the audience it was a lot of free stuff uh

No i mean like socially distanced and how did they do it was wonderful they sounded beautiful and i had the perfect seat i was dead center on the main floor and i i could hear everybody just perfectly oh that’s so funny beautiful but you know what my dear horn hangout friends um a lot of people um are watching from all over who know you but there are a lot of people who are meeting you for the first time um the horn hangout community is really enormous and i’m so happy and proud about that and um there’s some people in here that are meeting you so

I think that we should introduce everybody i think because oh who’s with jenna meet jenna breen who’s like right below me jenna from melbourne and oh this is seriously he’s trying to hold my hand he’s the newest member of my family and if i stop padding he wants to hold my hand so he’s a little clingy we all want to hold your hand jenna and you’ve met mark already uh mark robbins uh associate principal did i get that right yes and who has a cold head no just not anymore and you’re also the coach of the seattle youth symphony right you have right and i

Hope you’re all watching yeah they’re actually missing their um their morning rehearsal for this and then we’ll join it late today seattle youth symphony horns hello from the horton hangouts hi great you guys are there right in the chat let us know if you’re watching uh well you better be because otherwise you’re gonna be in trouble with your teacher um hello mark we have jeff fair who has an amazing pink shirt and i said jenna and danielle what do you think only real men can wear pink shirts i think it looks fantastic jeff’s principal horn and we want to find all of out all about

The top ease last night in a minute welcome jeff good morning and jenna you just met and zeus jenna’s second horn or is it do you have this sort of uh sort of changing we call it a vexel horn in germany uh sort of no we we stay second and fourth i’m i’m sick and danielle stays with us right um underneath you is danielle hi danielle she her um and danielle it’s fourth horn so um it’s real go girl power in the in the low horn section which is fantastic yeah and also you have the coolest pink bell either do you still use your pink

Bell sometimes it’s more of a it’s more of a barbie bell these days so a barbie bell okay genghis barbie we’ll get on to that later um and next to you last but not at all least and the guy who’s made most of the symposium happen right guys is john turman known as jt in the coolest hoodie i have ever seen oh my goodness hi guys hi sarah and you you did a great job yesterday into in with all the introductions and you you were literally the last people i saw before i went to sleep last night did you did you have good dreams sarah

I had wonderful i have to admit something to you and to all of you horn hangouts out there i set my alarm for 4 a.m because i was going to screen record your schumann and watch it when i got up the alarm went off i was so insulted that the alarm went off and i didn’t know why it went off and i turned it off and went back to sleep so thankfully it’s just been uploaded so you actually can watch it it’s available for the next seven days danielle can you put that can you put that link out can you put that link up there

Or jeff’s put it up there you guys are busy multitaskers oh my goodness i’m seeing you here in the um yeah so josiah boothby is from seattle laughing at spaced out heidi auros is watching from new york laurie height from seattle you’ve got a lot of seattle hey laurie sam holbert from cardiff um ben birmingham from from washington state rachelle jenkins who i believe is on right after this everybody hang around for rachelle jenkins talking about audition playbook it will be a fantastic talk um from sweden oh great let us know where you’re watching um the link is going up and you guys um one

More thing if you’re watching live on facebook um do pop over for the live chat on the website because um i can see the questions better better here so um if anyone’s watching on facebook then it would be great it would be great to have the questions here anyway welcome welcome welcome so where should we start i think we should start with the high ease in the schumann concert jeff how were they for you okay um exciting um and i think what there’s three of them in there right uh and i think we got them all actually um i i took two of them and

Um actually jt took the uh i would call the trickiest one the the one you have to skip up to with the arpeggio um we put that in his part so that sounds like a good idea yeah i was right behind you bills you know that for for me it was um this is the second time that we’ve done this piece we did it with the university orchestra here and and i had the same experience this time which is that when you’re playing with the orchestra there’s so much uh more sound than it is in my practice room obviously and i’m tempted to try to

To play those notes really loud because of course you want him to be heard um but doing that sometimes has bad consequences so i just had to remind myself you know when you take that breath before stay calm just do what you do it doesn’t have to be too loud because i try to play too loud then i overshoot it so so i just and it hurts i heard i’ve never i don’t think i’ve ever played a high e in my life but i’ve heard it hurts you know it it doesn’t hurt it feels great when you get it i’m sure well i did say

In the in the in the promotion for this we were going to be talking about the concert shook about the lips and the morale so it sounded like the morale was high yeah i had so much fun i was like for me and my challenges in the in the few rests that that i have is like don’t smile too much because then my face hurts don’t smile you were playing the challenge i’m having too much fun you played third right yeah in the arrangement we played the arrangement so you know it’s kind of it’s all over the place with what we did at yes so

I played the third part that was fantastic i played third and fourth and i must say fourth jenna what do you think about this fourth is a huge responsibility because you go in there knowing you don’t have the hardest part and you’ve got to support all the others who have these really outrageously difficult parts but psychologically i find it quite a difficult part because there’s no excuse if you don’t get your little bits you know i know yeah i definitely felt like i had the easiest job i came off stage and was talking to them backstage and they were talking about their high notes and

I think the highest note i played it was an e an octave lower than that but actually i thought about this this morning i did have one f sharp so it does go to an f but almost a whole octave below your dominance but you also you start a lot of the licks so that yeah you know that’s the hardest part i think that’s what i find i find this very first dot that i find that is yeah if you get that then the rest is going to be fine and then the one that jumps down to the low e yeah that would always oh

But that’s great and which um jt which arrangement did you do of it because we have a special one that stuff on door sort of patched together we did the carrie turner arrangement what what is different about that one i think it’s just the the split of the first horn part between first second and third um it’s really i you know compared to the international opus version that i grew up with this is just so much better i feel it just spreads everything out so the first horn is not totally dead at the end of it we we did it with radic barbaric and stefan

Um in the in the philharmonie with simon so simon and we were like okay let’s because third and fourth one have a bit of a boring time if they don’t you know if we do the original version then rally was like we’re doing the original so he did the original and we just stood around and had fun and got paid um it was great still but i prefer having a little bit more to do otherwise you sort of feel a little bit redundant there’s not a problem with that at all that’s good we got the applause we got we got paid we were part of

The a great team and radek did most of the work so i’m glad it was a really great success mark what was the feeling in the audience oh i think everybody loved it um we tried to applaud a lot louder than we normally do because there weren’t enough of us to i i don’t know this sound like enough people are plotting yeah it was great better than the better than the usual silence that we usually have after we finish sounds so weird when you play something and you feel like so great and it’s over and also it’s like nothing so i think it was probably

Better than that oh i’m glad well i am going to catch up with it and all of you watching um do uh go you go into the seattle danielle tell us how we can watch it if we didn’t catch it live because it was at 4am europe time yeah jeff put the link into the chat for it’s seattle symphony live is the seattle symphony’s live online platform so go to seattle symphony live jeff put the link maybe you can put it in again and you can sign up for a free seven-day trial so don’t feel like you know if you’re commitment phobe that’s okay you

Can just watch the schumann and then duck out or you can continue to watch our concerts it’s pretty reasonable i think it’s like 12 a month um and then we have cons we’ll have more live concerts all the way in into july so i also saw something really cool on your site and i think jt has a lot to do with that i saw some amazing films for kids tell us about that oh yes so i uh in addition to my third horn duties i am a uh kids show host at the seattle symphony for um the age group zero to five so like the

Littlest kids um and these shows are basically we wanted to just present great music you know not like the very typical nursery rhyme type things and so we’ve you know programmed um taishan stories autoshidisms too the schubert octet that jenna did last year for the stage show but during the pandemic though we switched all that to online and so in this very room that you see i just had this um green screen that i got from amazon and just uh went for it and emailed all my colleagues said hey you guys want to just record something for this kids show and we were turning out

Episodes every week it was insane but it was so much fun and just a really cool thing to say to our community we’re still here we’re still making content and bringing a little bit of joy a little bit of light during this absurdly dark time so well kudos to you jt because there’s some really fantastic stuff out there and it’s so important um to reach the younger generation i think we you know or we’ve all been suffering in this suffering in this pandemic but you know the young ones not being able to interact and to be at home all the time and homeschooling and and

Not going you know music missing out on all this stuff that we would do normally for education i think it’s fantastic horn hippie media it’s called right yes yes that’s my my media company horn hippie media hornpymedia.com and i’m also through hornhippie media hosting a lot of these events and all the recitals for the northwest horn symposium are on that youtube page so if you haven’t already checked out we have some incredible musicians and some incredible presentations already up on the horn hippie media youtube channel so check that out for sure fantastic fantastic really well done and i this is the the biggest group of

Multitasking horn players i think i’ve ever had on a horn hangout i can see you guys are in the danielle how are you doing this you’re smiling at the camera but you’re posting in the chat i’m so impressed um tiny tip tiny clips for tiny tots fantastic so tell me please about the symposium jenna jenny you’ve done a lot of the heavy lifting someone said yesterday on your introduction chat what is heavy lifting in a horn symposium yeah i don’t think um everyone that deserved credit was given credit yesterday it’s not just me and jt that have been doing things but jt has been doing

The heaviest lifting that’s for sure um i’ve just been doing a lot of emailing so i think a lot of people think that it’s been coming from me a lot just because they’ve seen my name on a lot of emails um i’ve just i’ve been connecting with all that so we we put out took our prefer we took proposals for presentations so i went through all the applications of those and then we went over what presentations were going to accept and put in the schedule and then kind of coordinated the times and got everyone ready and across the time zones lined up and in the

Schedule and then we got video submissions for solo performances so we’ve been putting recitals together with solo performances yeah that’s a lot of work oh my goodness putting all the program booklets together and stuff and you you did all the prize winners yesterday and we’ll be able to see some of their prize-winning videos yeah yeah danielle took care of most of the competition so maybe she can talk a little bit more on that but there is a a recital tomorrow where a lot of the videos are being put together so you’re going to see a lot of the up and coming people so if anyone’s

Just joined us live horn hangout with the seattle symphony horns the morning after the schumann concerto um you guys are all live in seattle right now and uh i’m live in berlin it’s uh 7 p.m in the evening i wish i was there last time i was there um we all i actually were all together there’s john john is missing right there’s just one of you missing so hi john if you’re watching um but apart from that we’ve got everybody here and yeah hi john um yeah i think my was my brother conducting that night is that why i came to see that’s right that’s

Right goodness and we got a fantastic picture um can may i just share something with you uh i have uh this was this oh sorry wrong that’s not what we wanted that’s what we wanted isn’t this the picture you were using for your publicity can you see that i can’t see anything ah no okay let me try again let me try this again there we go isn’t this a picture we’re using today yeah that’s awesome that’s incredible yes i think you’re a little taller than ludo though [Laughter] poor ludo in the mid this weird imposter in the middle that was actually their chief conductor um

Ludovic but um we did a bit of photoshopping but if it’s okay for you guys we’d like to use this as our thumbnail because um yeah absolutely yes yes i think you make us all look very pale yeah yeah right i think i had the orange fake tan going so um if you’re watching this live on facebook welcome let us know where you’re watching from if you want to join me with any questions do pop over to our website um where there’s a live chat running because that’s the only chat i can see right now kylie nelson said she loved the concert last night yo

Galena says hello from sweden seattle horns you are so cool you know yesterday i think danielle it was you when somebody said why are seattle tiffany horn so so cool you said instagram that’s right at seattle symphony horns follow us yeah sorry yeah we’ve had quite a social media presence i think you know having jt as a catalyst has has been awesome for that and i’ve also done a lot of that stuff in my previous you know other jobs and groups and things like that so we just we love doing projects and i mean we have a unique situation i don’t know how unique but

You know that we we like each other we hang out everyone’s game to do all these silly projects like you know putting mark in a riff-raff costume from rocky her picture show and he was all about it you know the raptor costume i just i love that everyone is just so game too that was an amazing moment i tell you you’ll go down in horn history for that if someone could put a link in the chat for that um seattle symphony horns uh rocky horror picture show it i can’t even begin to describe it how amazing that was and danielle taught us all the time

Warp yeah i think that was the most impressive part that the whole section did that she knew it all oh i do well i think that’s great i think it’s been really great you know i when i was with you guys in seattle i think it was jeff i think jeff you said to me um you know you want to do you want to carry on from the berlin phil horns because we haven’t been a full section for years and it’s really hard to keep that going when now we’re four you know yeah i think i i think i said to you that we were

Trying to be the second coolest horn section in the world um you know i but i want to i mean we do have fun and we’re we’re friends and we like each other but i think um i just want to put out there that i think it all starts because we um we all have a respect and love for the music and so the music itself and then that sort of um binds us together because that allows us this freedom to do all these other things and be silly when we want to or to be serious when we’re on stage playing you know whatever it

Is maul or beethoven um and and that kind of respect that we have for the music then transfers to respect for each other and what we do just to be a little philosophical cheers to that cheers to that no it’s it’s you’re absolutely right and also um i remember uh dinka lapkovitch who’s this amazing well she’s the husba the wife of a very amazing horn player who you may have heard of but also she’s a fantastic performance coach and she told me humor is the best enemy against stage fright and uh and we find that often in our horn section you know we’re going off

To play the most terrifying pieces live on the digital console you know and and and someone’s cracking jokes in the horn room beforehand whereas actually we should be praying but um but uh but it’s really nice to find a horn section that uh that love each other so much and i would like to find out more about you now not only me but all the viewers um and you guys have prepared a trivia quiz for all of us so um get ready for this trivia quiz i want you to put the answers in the um in the chat um nathan thanks for your question i

Will um we will we will get back to a couple of questions at the end but i’m dying to play this trivia quiz so we’re just going to play that now how is this going to work what would you suggest uh jenna so i think i’ll screen share and then um i’ll just unshare it for the guessing and then go on to the next one okay and um i have to guess or i’m gonna get we’re to see if the chats are sort of a tiny lag behind so okay these are the things you can’t google guys and this is what the horn hangouts are

All about now of course we could have mouthpiece questions and and you know an embouchure positions and the rest of it but um i’d rather get to know the people behind these you know these these amazing horn players um and so we’ve got the first question and we also have a photo attached to every fact after you guess who it is okay i coach little league baseball okay which of the seattle symphony horns dear audience would you say coaches little league baseball is it mark jeff jenner jt or danielle right okay i would say i’m not gonna wait for all the answers and you guys

Are welcome to to write it in and if i see them i’m gonna i’m gonna scream it out but there’s no one helping with this right now so i’m gonna say mark oh no oh okay i think that’s jeff yeah yeah that’s that’s yeah that’s me with my um well he turns eight tomorrow uh my son henry yeah that was is he where is he watching uh probably not probably playing he’s probably playing with legos or something like that okay well jeff um all these people got it right unbelievable everybody i thought heidi said danielle i almost went with danielle i just thought that would

Have been a real real typical thing for danielle to do because she’s basically done everything um right okay well thank you for that good keep all right danielle tony said that danielle as well john is a whole mixture okay so um so sarah zero seattle symphony horns won i was a drum major in high school now for the for us foreigners what is a drum major is it the one with the baton that sort of does this you know in front of the band and a lot of times they have a big hat okay so you march in front of the band and you have

A big hat okay okay i say the drum major was jt yeah oh just wait till this picture y’all oh my god is that a drum major yes oh my goodness so that was me um one of my friends is shooting photographs and she’s in the band she’s in the melophone section and i just like looked to her and i would always make this face just um you know to be silly you know in in marching band in high school it’s just the perfect place to um be hilarious and that really is hilarious and i haven’t seen you with that short hair i think ever

I know like after this quarantine i you know my hair has gotten like woof this is the moment now come on now yes johnny [Music] [Laughter] you had an amazing braid last night for our shoe yeah hey check it out it’s very nice check out oh thank you well my partner danny did that he uh you know said hey we need to we need to put some fashion on this and i’m like 100 let’s get it so you check out the live stream you remind me of a blonde version of that a gorgeous man who was um in game of thrones that didn’t speak just

Grunted um you know the bareback one on the the bear breasted one on the on the on the horse and you know draco oh yes yes drogo oh i’m completely flattered that is that is a huge compliment i think he would have looked good in your in your in your horn your horn hoodie as well oh absolutely by the way you guys these are bloody hot [Laughter] yes and also they’re a little large mine come up to here mine are kind of small mine are like really tight it’s really like the opposite you know it’s like [Laughter] second time twerking on a horn hangout hey

I have to i have to just throw in that um i was i was not drum major but i was in marching band in high school and two years at the university of oklahoma going to all the football games and and marching but i never made it up to drum major like jt marching with a horn really is very difficult we had the the president’s own band and the bands of the cold stream guard the home players from the cold stream guards from england on a horn hangout and marching with a horn is so hard isn’t it uh yeah yes it is you learn how

To there’s a certain technique for uh called the roll step for um maintaining your uh i guess you’re supposed to keep your upper body still basically i tried it they challenged me to a horn challenge i had to march with them i was really terrible anyway anyway so everyone’s everyone’s watching tony said you guys gals were all fashion last night um i can’t wait to mem material um john’s concert from his high school days is great too says matt highslip hi matt check that one out that’s an old old video on youtube that is really fun okay we need the link to that and um

And jt your twerking has just been very much appreciated people say that’s a first for the horn hangouts good oh my goodness okay so next question we’re ready for the trivia carry on seattle symphony horn trivia i once had dinner with imelda marcos and she served us fast food piled onto silver platters oh my goodness i once had dinner with imelda marcos and she served us fast food pile and savor powders i will go mark ah god i’m not doing very well today no okay um right who who who was that danielle you sneaky thing look at you oh my goodness tell us about that

Please yeah i was in the philippines with a group called cultures and harmony we did like cultural diplomacy and music and and somehow we got the invitation to have dinner with emal de marcos and we were like i mean it was it was one of the wildest nights of my whole life but when it came time to have this dinner that we thought we i mean we obviously dressed formally for this dinner the the butlers literally came with silver platters just piled with fast food it was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life well when we’re on tour in japan with the berlin

Phil they often serve us sausage you know everyone’s dying for sushi and we get it sausage and sauerkraut because they think that’s that’s what we like anyway we got eggs and ketchup once in japan i remember jenna you’ve got you got voted in a lot for that people thought that might have been you too okay next question next question i like this quiz this is good i lived on a cattle farm until i was five years old all right i’m saying that’s jenna coming really quick because jenna comes from the outback i remember you telling me that once i come from i don’t know that

I come from the outback where where is your cattle from oh look at that that’s me and my brother oh and did the two little calms uh uh make it or were they sent off to market well i think by the time we left we’re probably like four and five there so they probably were still still with us when we left they’re living and actually the um farm when the people who bought the farm after us they stopped farming it and they are using it to store ultra light planes ironically let’s get back to that every everyone got that one right jenna everyone yeah everyone

Said like a farmer it’s your accent everybody knew it was it was okay okay next next question i have a cat named schubert who loves to lay on his back and have his muddy feet cleaned after being outside i have no idea so i’m going to go with i’m going to try mark again because he seems like yes he seems like someone that would name his cat schubert because it’s such a cool name um cute and is he musical does he meow when you practice uh he hangs out when i practice he hangs out with me oh cute because like stefan dora’s dog just runs

Away okay um cute i can dead live what is dead lift is it like weight lifting i think it’s something like that yeah i guess yeah it’s not me um i have absolutely no idea but i would maybe say jt because that’s really heavy not only does he do the heavy lifting for the symposium he just does the heavy lifting literally that’s a lot of weight i i love your your um yeah the man bun and the mask and the proud the proud stomach over the thing yeah that’s fantastic that just you were really strapped in there now you know how we feel with our

Oh spanx does it help does it help being a third horn do you need how what how much of a weight lifter are you you know i i actually when we were watching the frankie lucerto um presentation yesterday i was thinking there is so much um just overlap between powerlifting and horn playing all this breathing and bracing and building inter-abdominal pressure to uh use your breath um you know efficiently it actually you know even though i may be a little bit tired it’s uh it actually i think is a little bit helpful for the high notes well that’s great because we say in our horn

Section that the most weightlifting that is done is this you know after concerts and not not in these little mugs either by the way everybody this is the merchandise from the northwest horn symposium and you can order it online and you’ll be supporting the um seattle symphony horns there we go all the merchandising oh sorry wrong merchandise there but you can get really cool joggers that jt is wearing too oh i get my leg up like that oh yeah oh my gosh on on my screen we’re actually hold on i’m going to screenshot this sarah keep it up keep it up screenshots please oh man

I’m going to drop that in the chat oh my goodness my mom’s watching by the way in london she just sent a message and she’s got my little four or five-year-old nephew angus watching so angus loves to be said hello too so yes i angus okay next question this is fun oh when i was 11 i broke my arm twice within two months so who was really active and running around um i’d say that’s danielle again oh okay let’s see a picture that’s such a sweet picture oh okay school photos very sweet are you all joining in the quiz by the way it’s gone a

Bit quiet i think people were busy screenshotting our our our joggers here um so okay so do join in next question what’s the score anybody i have an n scale model railroad what is an n scale model rail yeah well the next photo doesn’t have the person in it okay good oh that’s very cute you know that’s what dads do to have an excuse to play our dad bought us a railway track thingy and he played with it more than anybody else so i’d say this is jeff yeah it true jeff do you play with the trains more than your children absolutely yes yes i

Mean we put it around the christmas tree of course but um yeah i work on these um intricate little models that picture you show showed um those are less than an inch tall you know a couple centimeters tall is it good is it good for first horns to have these sort of little worlds where they go into to to sort of forget those top ease and things i i absolutely think it is too um yeah you know as i don’t know if if you’re like this if you if you sort of turn over a phrase in your head or trying to solve whatever problem it

Is that you’re thinking about that week but then it’s nice to have something yeah that turns that off and clears the mind and puts you right in that moment of that’s not music totally and everybody got that one by the way [Laughter] everybody amateur shipping center fellow railway buff here says hi um so that’s nice everyone got that one except laurie who said mark so um right next i am part owner of a family farm in maryland well i’d actually like to say jenna again but i better not because then she’ll be really offended that i only think she [Laughter] um danielle no mark me

Yeah okay tell us uh well um been a part owner of this farm since 1963. when my parents bought it with three other families and it’s still a working farm and we grow hay mostly and have beef cattle is that your escape from from horn playing from i i try and get there um two or three times a year and i do projects like last summer i painted the house um and uh i like working in the hay field when i’m there at that time that’s that’s really fun but there’s always stuff to do there yeah it’s like on the horn there’s always stuff to

Do on the horn okay well that’s great okay these are the things guys that you cannot google and you’re getting it all here on the horn hangouts really exclusive access to the seattle symphony horns so um yeah okay so we’ve got okay i’ve got to keep an eye on the time because we have one left one left rachelle jenkins is about to come on at um in 20 minutes to give us her audition playbook so i am obsessed with macaroni and cheese from lobster mac to velveta i don’t discriminate um i would say it’s a tie between danielle and jt no okay danielle okay i

Assume that’s danielle yeah and i love mac and cheese it’s velveeta you’re too classy to to know about selfies you buy velveeta in those sort of packages um yeah and it’s huge is it what is it you know but it’s one other fun fact is that my parents almost named me velveeta and the cheese already existed um is that is that because you’d already they were they were going to train you to love it or they knew you just knew so do you have that that’s why you’re velvet velvet i know it’s part of the reason i’m velvet barbie [Music] did you is this public

Knowledge that that’s how you got your name velvet barbie it’s actually not why i have that name but but i’d love to just add that in there velveteen barbie i think um why do you have your name velvet barbie can you explain um about genghis barbie to maybe the the friends that don’t know don’t know about you guys yet sure so genghis barbie is the world’s leading post-post-feminist feminist all-female pop french horn experience gosh repeat that please that’s right and um you can actually catch us today at 4 p.m um pacific time we’re going to be on the pathways podcast with adam wolf genghis barbie

Will be there for the genghis barbie power hour um and we can’t wait um we’ve been around for 10 years now but we each have a barbie name like the spice girls and i’m velvet barbie we say so named for my velvety vocals yeah because what what you may not know or you probably do know is that danielle is an amazing singer and actually my brother told me that first alistair he was the one that said hey there’s this there’s this home player and she she can sing she’s amazing so yeah on all your crazy videos you’re you’re the singer except someone jt you’ve been

Sung as well on some of these videos a little bit danielle uh encourages me um i would say and definitely helps with any singing issues that i have she’s like all right just project just like sing it out get it out in the hall and you know an amazing vocal coach as well as a singer we love to do it and we love to karaoke that’s that’s where it all started is john and i were karaoke and duetting and we were like let’s bring it to the horn section so part of our recital last night when you get a chance to see it our our

Signature encore is suddenly seymour from the little shop of horrors mark when when these crazy kids came into the seattle symphony orchestra and started saying they were going to sing and make you dress up as a rocky horror picture show um how was that i actually kind of like doing different things the only thing is it’s really hard for me to wrap around all the technology that these guys are so incredible at and i heart you i hardly have an instagram account i think i looked at it maybe a year ago i remember we we made mark’s instagram account while we were on tour a

Couple years ago and um unfortunately the handle where’s mark was taken so scandal so who is he now how can we all follow him i think it’s mark underscore robin’s underscore horn okay that might be i don’t know i haven’t looked at it for so long i don’t know i have to find it well all of you watching have to follow seattle tiffany horns on instagram anyway because there’s a lot going on there and um yeah especially this weekend um so what have we got to oh is that it is that the end of the quiz that was brilliant thank you everybody that was really

Fantastic and i love your paddles let’s see them all yay all right i’m getting a screenshot of those um yeah come on one more time screenshots paddles mark where’s your paddle there we go screenshot here we go yes okay it’s all for social media so i learned a lot about you guys today um what are um do you each have one more thing that um that we wouldn’t know about you and i’d like to start with jenna because i know this about her but jenna i’d love you to tell us about your past your second passion apart from from your gorgeous doggy there what have

You just qualified as um yeah so during covet i learned to fly single-engine planes i took it up in june and i passed my check ride in december and i am licensed to take people up so i’ve taken a few passengers and i’m currently getting my instrument rating to fly through the clouds amazing what do you guys think of this jeff what did you when your second horn said oh i’m just going into the clouds um you know i’m not surprised at all because i think to fly you don’t you have to stay calm right and and keep track of a lot of different things

And uh i mean i love sitting next to jenna because she’s just she’s always calm and stable and you know as a first horn there’s nothing better than than having somebody that’s always right there i’m glad i project that it’s not what i always felt that’s the secret to a good second horn is sitting there and serenely even though inside going yeah i mean jenna thinks that i’m a calm person too which is what’s strange but so yeah we can we can you know it is a performance i suppose jeff yeah sorry i was just gonna say i think we can all agree that jenna

By far did the most with her quarantine yes the rest of us just watched a lot of tv shows and oh tell us i need i need a new series if any of you guys have a new i’ve run out of everything i’ve seen it all um drag race who rupert race spoilers no spoilers no spoilers do not drop spoilers in the chat no finale yeah jewel dirk says congratulations on piloting um instrument rating is tough it is yeah what is instrument rating um so basically you’re not allowed to look outside the plane you have to wear like a hood so you’re only looking at

The instruments on the panel and then the entire time you’re talking to air traffic control and they’re telling you exactly what to do so but the hardest thing is like when they give you instructions it’s like this list of instructions and you’re flying a plane and then you have to repeat all of it back perfectly to them and then actually execute what they’re telling you to do so oh my goodness every lesson i come out and i’m just like mentally fried but it’s a good challenge oh my goodness so what else did you do okay we’ve got it we’ve got a tv shows what else

Did you do jeff what did you do in quarantine you played with your trains uh a little bit um i was gonna say the thing that yeah people don’t know about me is that i think it was about four or five years ago i uh taught myself to snowboard and we’re lucky here that um there’s a mountain oh about an hour away so you know between a morning rehearsal and after an evening concert there’s uh there’s time to get on your snow gear and i bet that helped jenna feel come feel serene and calm down on the mountain well i didn’t do it yesterday before

I assume one but uh you know depending on the program i i guess i like to think that um yeah doing those things outside of horn um actually helped me perform better you know the same way we talked about the trains focusing and sort of clearing the line it’s the same thing with the snowboarding where you’re only thinking about what your next move is going to be you know half a second from now rather than than that note that you missed last week or whatever it was that’s fantastic fantastic to know okay we need some pictures of you doing that i guess one guy i

Saw going down on on on skis playing a trombone um so we need you to yeah anyway that’s your next challenge okay um mark how about you what what do we not we know you have a phone we know you you keep your head warm i don’t know if you can can you see that picture um it looks like a uniform that yeah that’s me when uh that was how i started playing the french horn in the metropolitan dc police boys club band and uh it was an incredible band it really sounded great and you went in as as young you know they take you

Very young and i could hardly play a note when i started playing in there and then after i’d been in the band for about four years i became first torn and got incredible amount of experience because we played things like the von prin uh uh was it the pavan for the dead princess and dvorak new world symphony all kinds of things that were transcribed for band and uh so i’d like i’d like that photo so that you can see if i can build it yeah so we can slot it in there yeah thank you danielle we know we know about genghis barbie we know about

Velveteen cheese macaroni cheese what else well something that some people might know but i think is pretty exciting is that mark was actually my teacher in high school so i just think that’s awesome and also john carson who’s not here this morning was was also mark’s student and so it’s just an amazing thing because as as many people probably know professional orchestras are like professional sports teams i mean to to get a position period is hard and to get a position in your hometown orchestra is like winning the lottery and so it’s just amazing that we both get to work with mark as a colleague

Now and it’s just wonderful i’ll have to send you some old uh old photos we have that are pretty funny yes please we would like to well we will put that in the edit when um you’d like to see that yeah danielle actually played a concert with your brother when you’re in high school right that’s how i’ve known sarah’s brother since i was like 15. he was conducting mozart’s second i think it was fourth fourth famous i played mozart’s fourth with the symphony in high school and i’ll never forget it because i got a piece of hair in my mouth and and it was very

Stressful and i never wore my hair down for years and years after that because it was so traumatizing so oh my goodness i could imagine that happening with jt though as well you have to really get that hair out of the mouth while you do the braid you know but i remember because i i’ve known aleister for so long and then much later we played a concert another concert together and he said well you know my you know i’m the brother of the the world’s most famous low horn player and i was like huh and i just never made the connection and i was like

What and that was just so fun well now i now i don’t need i’m only the sister of the conductor alistair willis edit that out and very very proud very proud of that oh that’s great no i i remember him telling me all about he’s a big fan of yours so um okay jt last but not in the slightest least like the introduction tell us something yes well i will um something you can’t google about me and tying back into our theme of velveeta cheese i have a dynamite queso recipe so for all of our european friends queso is this type of dip that you

Um dip tortilla chips in it’s a cheesy base and you can add all these different you know flavors to it and i’m actually oh it dropped it in the chat right there so uh one block of velveeta and one can of spicy rotel one roll owens spicy breakfast sausage you can of course substitute non-spicy if you’re not into the heat brown the sausage in a pan and then throw all the ingredients in a slow cooker on low and in about 30 minutes you have a delicious party dip for any occasion fantastic and i hear the keys clacking so daniel i need you what about your

Macaroni cheese recipe um i’m not really like i said i don’t discriminate so often i just make annie’s i love amy’s mac and cheese but i love a good um i love a good like gruyere mac i mean that’s got to be the best combo well if anybody’s watching here in europe mac and cheese is is like in german it would be like keizer like skater like cheese noodles or something everyone has their version of it you know like carbonara it’s just adult mac and cheese it’s just like it’s what you just feel i actually not exactly not immediately before a concert i wouldn’t but

For like the your midday meal before a concert it’s okay but just before concert what do you think i do yeah i don’t i don’t do dairy before right before before velveeta is for concerts velveeta is a petroleum byproduct so it’s technically not dairy that’s american food for you right there so there’s a there’s a lot of chats there’s a lot of people commenting on matt says goodbye arteries laura kasohak you sodium citrate um yeah karen love kaizo so i think we’ve we’ve got the most active chat um for for many hangouts you guys have really you’ve been a huge huge hit with the horn
