Hi everybody welcome to the horn hangout Stefan will you stop making such a lot of noise with your ice cream spoon Oh looks like he’s pictures frozen welcome look at licking the bowl Oh actually why not it’s tea and I’m having tea today with my wonderful colleagues who I’ve missed so much Stefan J Stefan DeAndre’s iPad and
Tim Kelly in Melbourne hi everybody Tim it’s late you want to go to bed you’re gonna leave us alone light I’ll leave you to it call me if every trouble yes we will thank you for joining us have fun see well we will hi everybody you have once again astounded us from where you’re all watching from we really incredible
Bavaria Salzburg Miami Munich Colorado Hamburg Tokyo with a cup of barley tea incredible hi everybody Stefan J I love your t-shirt oh thank you yeah I really like this t-shirt I received it as a present a present and I actually love it it’s a very nice t-shirt very cheerful and so that’s thought that’s thank you that’s the horn hangout
Oh Stefan Brutus Wow yeah it looks particularly good in this move and Andrey doesn’t own one yet oh but you do yes you do wait and wait wait you have one you do have one that’s right well we’ll find it later sorry I’ve got my email still still switched on I’m just turning it off yeah so how is everybody
I miss you all we today is about the the Berlin Phil horns as I promised and we thought because Stefan J is the most senior member even though he’s at heart the youngest one of all of us we thought we’d start off with Stefan Stefan is J because how long how many years now Stefan I started in 1978 so you can figure it out yourself pretty good at math or medium at math but
I’m into my different decade I’ve played in the seven 80s the 90s the zeros this is the twenties this season and I’ve already played some concerts the season so it’s I played in six different decades in the Berlin Philharmonic which you saw not that I’m happy to be still here on you know talking to you all it was great to play these quartets week and
I’m really looking forward to get back together I miss you all so much I know it was them we played we met on last Saturday we played on the digital concert hall live with social distancing and Ray was about I don’t know we had Muhammad was did a horn and a half two horns and an arm a meter yeah we were more than a meter there was no
I lowest more than Jill meets or something yeah three and a half meters our horn room is so sort of small as well it was sort of like Hello no no you couldn’t stay with four people in there there’s no way no strange strange times indeed I forgot the address I thought in case you got homesick home stick
I thought about doing this wait ah zoom is there we go did you take a picture of it the only problem is it goes a little bit weird you know if you’re like and especially if you do this look at this III so you saw like gee how long have you been in the orchestra tell us me yeah yeah
I started in 1993 okay like 15 years ago at least yeah 15 years ago I still I’m trying to work out how long stuff on J’s been in the orchestra but I counted yet no 93 and I was not the youngest gig was already there came yeah yeah I see you saying he’s not here today but he is the trypsin member of the a person horn section no we don’t we don’t have a is your harmless joining in later maybe
I maybe let’s see I said there was some surprises so you’ll just have to wait and see thank you for almost fall yes Georg just coming back to Giro cuz a lot of you have written in and said you’d love to hear from Georg Georg is really not the most he he doesn’t own any social media sites he’s really not into all that he’s the most fantastic guy were the best sense of humor in the entire section and and we adore him but he really doesn’t like to talk in public so he really he sends his love but he just this is not his thing
But I must be you guys we’ve had messages from people saying thank you for putting us out there because it’s made them enjoy the digital concert hall more and it’s made them cheer every time the horns are on on the camera great that’s nice and Andrew Zahra yeah Andrews almost our baby right oh man yes since when are you in the orchestra that must be well except for 2009 as a chemist in 2011 and
Stefan J was your teacher right yeah uh and what was he like quite a lot he was really big sometimes so a couple of times I just had to stop the laugh you know was not the best day I couldn’t play really well and he would [Laughter] by the way guys now son is watching in Tokyo and actually there’s there’s so many there’s so many of so many of our friends watching it’s amazing
I mean you’ll you’ll see after a Cindy’s watching from Taiwan hi Cindy it’s really it’s it’s it’s it’s a whole you’ll have to go and look on the if you’re watching on Facebook write in and tell us where you’re watching if you have any questions write in here to the website chat because I can see those and at the moment nobody’s really asking a lot they are they are they are just they’re just saying hi and telling us what they’re drinking and what are you guys drinking it’s probably some homemade no not today no but actually the cooking is like it’s getting a bit yeah
Yeah yeah this dream yes what and what Angie otter okay we got a first question okay and we’ll start with Stefan dorm okay Dennis says he watched Brooklyn fourth last week and as expected Stefan solo lines made the music sing but Sarah wasn’t playing how do you determine who plays what concerts good question baby Kirsten yeah actually we don’t have an orchestra manager so that is something interesting so we have of course we have an intern run and we have our champ and everything but actually we all decide by ourself who’s playing what and when so actually of course we have then two to match
Numbers and then see that we do do play enough but actually we can be settled sara is deciding would you boys like to our ad and anything to that what that you’re deciding how do we decide how what we play I mean chef on you you you’ve been colleague list for a while you you you when you when we when we’re trying when we were auditioning or
I have a job free then we can basically choose when we want to be there right you both of you actually at the moment it’s great it’s in a way very comfortable on the other hands like yes I try like on tours to play mostly everything so I can get a bit heart after a two and a half week tour but
I’m also I’m very flexible with that so that’s quite fine for me but of course we try to you know we try to find a new principal horn so we try people out on different pieces and yeah sometimes you have to hop somehow decide on which pieces you try them on so I I think would be good if someone would be the very first time there as a business of home to play book enough or or
Tchaikovsky five or you know all these things this is better for people who are who have already played a couple of times and how we now say yeah and really I must say I love our way of working out who’s gonna play what it’s really it’s just so relaxed yeah are you bling next week and then we should we show up sometimes and it’s like are you playing second or am
I playing second or you please no of course we prepared both parts of course what you call the library to send us both of the parts that’s right so we explain a little bit how the low horn thing works well I mean about who’s gonna play or not I mean usually the beginning of the season we get together and you know we talk about it listen this week
I have I have a concert with chamber music or something can you play probably I can I get this week 3 but this is usually well how we usually talk yeah most of the time from this week until until next week yeah but now I play all the concerts when I joined I was officially four thorn I mean when you remember
Stefan chef on Jay in the indie like the older days that was really like two seconds and 2/4 yes okay but also with they had to play so was the second in booth obligation of four six eight and force the population of two six eight so often mostly people sort of stayed on their on their part right on second horn
Montford and furgus played only second horn yeah and we we’re very flexible with that we swap around if somebody prefers to play fourth on a piece Andrey gets basically all the hard solos and cuz he’s the youngest so whoever comes next well we also had Stefan playing second and Andre paying third we obviously but he plays first on sometimes too so it’s it’s a very father long
Jan was looking for the quartets on the digital console it’s the Bruckner and it’s in the concert number three wasn’t it of the Easter Festival so that that should be there really exactly yeah that should be there um I just saw I just thought yeah what is auditioning for the Berlin Phil like so yeah Stephane Jay tell us what what it’s like to audition if someone was applying what would they expect
I remember I auditioned uh it was a long time ago and I have to prepare of a fourth Mozart horn concerto and a few orchestral excerpts and I went on stage I thought I would have this was just really just like of concert I didn’t have a chance anyway they are not going to take American playing a con
AED in the Berlin Philharmonic so I just went out he played just for fun just the way I play and I was happy and surprised that after a few orchestral excerpts they asked me to come and play for carry on two weeks later and I was in a good frame of mind I enjoyed playing I just thought of it like
I said as a concert and I was fairly relaxed I still didn’t I thought it was maybe the preliminary audition then I would get in the main round with with the German players going for the job but it turns out it was the real deal and they took me then for for the position was of course completely flabbergasted
I was 23 years old and after you got the job this guy got the job or was it the other way around hi Klaus Klaus mollendorf again what are you drinking class British tea English tea very good life is good we met you explain your horn what are you playing on this is my little practice horn first place
I take this on all the trees I meet on the beaches of Laurel moment and it’s not that your your your screen is around the wrong way it is round that it is round the other way for us yeah it’s not it is the way yes that’s the way we are constructed it also you’ve got to play everything in
F because in I love Klaus welcome were you in the orchestra when Stefan joined no you came after I came two years after and I left say something about our time together with Klaus when we were on we’re talking about dividing up this business when Klaus and I were dividing up the third horn book and the high horn things it was really so cool because we both enjoyed playing and we both enjoyed having free there were only a few big pieces we would like flip a coin who would play the promise of piano concertos or something like both basically we it was just so easy
And that’s why I’d like Sara and Ray now this is just very cool adventurous story yes your first horn adventures both of you or what yeah not at the same time but sometimes we were allowed to replace some players weren’t there and I was playing third horn when it Klaus was playing first in 87 I think I was like
God you were like 18 19 years old did casket did step I’ll give you a hard time when you were in Paul Biya on your trial year not really no I can’t remember the world characters involved but no it was pretty easy and I think I had no how do you say counter votes as they told me the routine is it called counter votes no votes against no votes against someone someone
Sara another Sarah has just asked do we speak English or German in the orc well our section is a real mixture in it Slovene will be like Andre yeah well if you remember Andre I whom did I offer this Slovenian English word book there the dictionary years ago ya know did you give it to me yeah that’s right it’s in the horn room somewhere it’s buried and under like million and two books we have to find that again okay
I’m doing I think it’s about time we set Slovenian as the the official language of one thing yeah but offer to mostly speak German in there in the horn room yeah because everybody speaks fantastic German Sarah Stefan J anyway we have to but I remember kids I for getting very upset when somebody said the word T in the horn sections he didn’t like that at all right yeah yeah remember that day it wasn’t me
I wasn’t there I was Alan Jones he said cup of tea or something in the break and he got me but yeah well don’t you remember class no but a pop oh yeah good good good and Ray um Marley’s wants to know what was your experience with the Academy how what was it like being in the Academy and then getting into the section was it was it weird how did you manage to hold your own well we know but
I’m just asking you for the others no Academy was the best thing actually it was the best school for me was so much fun to play the orchestra you know having lessons which step on getting advices from the Stephan’s leaving he’s got to pick something up he’ll be right back never mind and Ray carry on mm-hmm and you know to play with
Stephan and at that time was Roddick still in the orchestra just to observe what they were doing playing really the best ball ever may I introduced you to your highness LaMacchia who’s our new third horn who’s taking over a classes job well he was supposed to be playing with us already right now but coming in September and
Klaus and your highness have never met yeah that’s funny we almost met in Munich a couple of weeks ago when we were still able to meet each other but we didn’t know what were you doing in Munich I wasn’t in Munich you were on the list on the Carnival end of February yeah yeah right I was in what was a small town
I forgot oh yeah did you play in the church yes yeah we put up we played in yeah we played robbing the church yeah I was there but there was fun but also quite hard with with Stefan so he’s just going to pick the entire Horn world knows this painting or curtain or whatever it is on the wall because
Stefan’s been live streaming with it for the two weeks so he is there and he’s on his way back I don’t know what he’s doing but anyway okay welcome to the horn section we have an action managed to play you did play something though didn’t you when I wasn’t there yeah February in February I played with and a gear and
Hannah and Hannah yeah um we’ve been people have been asking how do we decide who plays when we’re not there I’m Stefan do you want to answer that one how do we decide big decision of course well we look and see position is open and what piece it is and we have to try to make sure that it’s artistically always good we wanted always to be good that’s our priority so we try to pick people that we feel will be able to do a good job and sometimes for so long we would like to try out and see how they play if they maybe come
In to people from the section there that it’s hard to hear you it’s hard to hear your audio suddenly or someone’s disappeared who’s left because your Hondas is there no clouds we want you back where did you go he’s had a know just two minutes all I had to I just had you opened the door because they post the good thing is the audio is so good we could hear everything that was going on in the next room well that’s okay
I’m doing a lot of online shopping building a barbecue building up lens building up table building up stools building up hanging up pictures great love it where’s Klaus where did he go and well maybe maybe you’ll find his way back in let’s let’s carry on with the questions my true lazier wants to know how do you warm up together before concerts and that’s a very interesting question because our rooms actually quite small most of you know it from the videos but it’s quite small and and basically we do our main warming up at home don’t you think
I mean I would say I do others don’t other get to the practice on the filament Yeti Georg has born there and practices there good thing is always you know when you come into the film when you walk up the stairs to the second floor it’s like you can already know who is in the whole room by just the exercises so now we’re looking forward what your harness is going to use for and and if it ends up if he’s a really loud warmer upper will offer him a key to a practice room down a lot or tongue warmer upper we’ll see
I just got my new studio box at home by coincidence just before this Karuna shutdown started so it’s quite quite nice quite big with high ceiling and with the windows it’s wow oh it sounds interesting thank you I thought third home players never played together dan wants to know how often do we fill in with other orchestras how often do we play also for extra yeah not so often gigs but just in by toys and stunts by starts opening the lane and everybody watching the stream in your house cuz
I can hear an echo of what we’re doing no I mean my box now here I clear us twice so I be someone listening no we play Yohannes is still principal one of the commercial bother good the common room and you’ve been playing extra with us for a while but you’ve had to quit your job to come to us that’s how it works son fortunately not always but yeah sometimes they keep the job they keep the job for a year or two that case was already allowance yeah and the policy of the
House has changed but not just because of me they yeah they changed it yeah yeah I’m supposed to play with so I mean I’m looking forward to join them but I’m gonna happen yeah od lamp Allah is watching from his sauna so we might not do your selfie well you’re welcome to do a selfie with us today well that’s a horn hangout selfie vintage iPad covers for the song especially for the sound lines how old do you have to be to get into this
Orchestra it’s more like the other way around how how old are you before 22 23 33 I think the youngest was a dick son no painter brain was 18 when he started Wow but the thing is you have to in Germany there’s this a little bit of a strange rule that you have to be under 35 to be considered usually of course there are exceptions it’s it’s sort of like it’s more or less around 35 which does mean invites to auditions with our orchestras a bit different if someone has a very good resume but the age structure of the group is important isn’t it
I mean should I find we you know we try and not all much well I don’t know we’re doing quite well actually when you look at us [Laughter] you know but isn’t that true that the judge in Germany with auditions until 35 that’s what it was yeah 40 or something but now I think it has changed a bit in the last year’s it’s not that strict anymore yeah okay
I’m just gonna fire these questions at you because they’re really nice girls - they’re ones that try yeah cha cha Janis Ian Estrella sorry I’ve still can’t pronounce your name I do apologize how many weeks before straight for our concerts in Sweden yeah how many weeks before all that depends on the library even the library gets I mean if it is that the material is there you can always ask for the material but if it’s higher material usually it’s like four weeks before or something it’s it’s already in the library you can ask for it they always send you nice
PDF copies on your computer so you don’t usually have to get the papers that’s - JEA wants to know how would we define the Berlin Philharmonic horns sound close that’s one for you Jesus I can’t really say because it has changed since my first days there but still a little admirable I can’t describe it but we blend quite well we have the same instrument even the same the same type of instrument we have our individual kinds of sound and still fit together some
I hope so but I don’t really dare to be too proud I was very happy to be a member of this section but anyway the judgement should come from outside you mean yeah I mean I agree I think the judgement should come outside but when you join the orchestra was it completely you and Stefan Jay you had in those days - the sound the difference to the sound work today yeah
I try not to realize I try to be the same and blend or I hope the other would blend the others would blame Jay yeah well when I started it was a it was a situation where we played with a huge string section Carian was conducting and everything was doubled and even though it was doubled we had to play extremely loud the horns were just really we have to play louder than we thought was necessary and that made it the
Berlin Philharmonic sound back there was this huge rolls-royce 12 cylinder sound and when carry on with some Claudio Abbado became and we played like carian was there and he would get like it was like totally so we had to play worth of all really soft in the background and to get used to then finally it was like a model was given a
Ferrari to drive and finally let us be the Berlin Philharmonic again so we did some great contracts with Claudio look back then with nose volume was very important among other things in Korea also accuracy Garrick ciphered would get really upset anyone mr. note so it sometimes it’s a shame it’s one needs to be accurate but it’s not necessarily good if the goal is just to get the notes when asked to play the music and hopefully then one for one place the music with courage and knowledge the notes will be the complaints that question actually came in a bit earlier on today about what is acceptable
What is an acceptable amount of cracks and how about for a guy on trial but I don’t think we’ll discuss that here johannes make some suggestions please Johannes actually people are writing in they’re so happy to meet you and they said can you give us a really quick biography of yourself Oh quick was a quick man so yeah
I’m born in 85 in Cologne and I went to school in Bonn my apparent stuff between bomb Cologne I went to school there I had my first lesson I’m going to teach him born then I wasn’t with the domani School in franklin’s I once a week I travel there by train from bonus not that far after I finished school
I went to the University of Arts studying with dynamo so for two and a half years then I was there I met how should and I thought it’s also interesting to get his opinions about home playing we’re setting with him then I got my first academic job in castle I think chef ang a professional okay so where’s where my first experience so
I was playing there can effects alone but was fun I was playing some then I got my first job in Bremen when I was 23 years old and then I did Bremen lamonica and there was third first for five years and since 2000 and then I was still curious about getting some input to continue learning whatever and then
I was taking some lessons with and then I got my job with commercial in 2014 as pizza yeah there was that was a pain that was a great it’s gonna be on the rerun if people can look it up on YouTube so they can write it all down and perfect yeah we hope so too we we have we’ve got to pick out a nice cupboard for you in the in the in the horn room we haven’t decided what where where you’re gonna go yet we have to
I don’t know if I could classes classes shrank his his locker is for me so holy because we spent all all this all these years next to each other I don’t know if I could it’s empty huh I’ll empty it we did I can de we did already I mean we throw all the stuff out already I enjoyed
I enjoyed sitting at the entrance when I was warming up that’s where you have to stay you just have to be careful that this door doesn’t bang you’re okay well the finder will find you a nice corner speaking of corners there’s a great question Annika wrote in and she said what have you learned from the four corners project and
Margaret wrote in you said Annika they learned how many horns will fit in Sara’s mini that’s a good answer we did especially how many horn players yeah how many horn players yeah so I’m Andres this is a good one for Stefan J what are your favorite free time activities to keep yourself fit well Stefan J is the absolute he’s our he’s our god of sports in the orchestra so yeah tell us that one note the weighted
I I’d love to play tennis and that’s really missing not all the time tennis would be starting they’ve been playing for two weeks in the Czech Republic they are starting in May in Austria to be allowed to play tennis fortunately I have here at home I have a cross trainer you see it but I have a cross trainer which
I was dormant for many months and years but now everyone in the family is taking turns to go on on the cross trainer so I really think it’s important and it helps me to be if I’m 50 problems tennis is my main sport and I’m looking forward to get back to that yeah and Andrey your sport at the moment is running after two little girls right yeah but we try to do every day something so we go for a walk in the park or in the forest it’s a little bit boring at the moment we have to do home schooling as well what are you
Learning well learning German when her learning I’m learning as well yeah math oh my god [Laughter] she plays the guitar and the oldest daughter so we play guitar I’m learning guitar now as well well actually I’m enjoying family time you know it gets a little bit hard from time to time you know you’re like oh just have a little bit time off but just how this close what are you doing are you taking all the books out of the bookshelf everyday and put them back together in a different order i improve my
Latin Latino Latin math English French horn we go for hikes every day sometimes even every second day I try to practice this is why I have the little horn but it’s hard because my locker my okay how do you say the shutdown is kind of beep upon Sonia is a shutdown anyway enjoy names in English means for a retired person it’s a lot of life is a lockdown which is the translation how have you felt
Klaus because I I mean I can’t even I don’t we we don’t think of you as having left because you play so often still which is great but but you have so much to do I think that that’s really helped the transition because you play in German brass and it’s kept your chops you know you’ve got great chop still not right now of course because
I don’t like practicing I never learned to like how to practice and these days now these funny strange times don’t help so the only reason why I practice a little bit is because I have to be a a4 built an idol for geikie awesome who is 11 and who doesn’t like to practice neither not yet I did it
I encouraged him now from time to time by playing myself I don’t know if it works because we end up playing Monopoly each night instead of playing a duet right them that keeps me busy on I’m a little jealous of jakey I must say because he has replaced me as classes favorite duet partner and I really that’s hard from my heart cause if
I may say so here in person I’d see heretic yes yes it’s getting laughs you have to leave okay wait Stefan can we just do a selfie of the day has anyone got their horns with us because I promised we wanted a Berlin fill hole and and got there and Ray if you got yours anywhere near have to find it this for my dear friends that have just earned us on
Facebook and on on the website we do a selfie every day as soon as Andrew gets back and you can please post we want to see them Andrews got his horn at least you got your horn the grand jury will join okay yes please that’s not as hard he says hey that’s a commoner okay oh here we go we ready with the selfies
I want the guinea pigs and the birds and the dogs and everything at one two or even gorgonzola see you tomorrow Stefan we’ll see you back here okay thank you we’ve got a few more questions guys you want to stay for a few not sure okay um so here’s one where were we actually we have another question for your highness is that okay from
Jack W you’re handsome depends on the question you have the most recent experience with so many options how did you pick the schools that you went to he’s auditioning for his for his own master’s degree so how do you pick a good school a good professor I guess yeah I mean it’s important like that you it’s not just about the school of obviously about the the teacher you want to learn with and
I think so is good too get to know them before so you take a kind of a private lesson before and then I mean yeah that was the way I did it and I had some help to be on when I was still going to school and then I because he was Hungarian I met someone going on players for example savage the
Athenian people like that and he knew the builders somehow sometimes you have to be lucky for example because he knew Sevilla because he had a time contact in Frankfurt and then he made the connection said just go there for lessons and then I was to taking a master class when I was still going to school with diamond and then there was this possibility to studying with him so
I think you get to know people yeah I think it’s really important that that your teacher is really important and Ray has it had great teachers in in Sylvania and one of them we adore Bastian who’s been to play with us and and I just wanted to congratulate you guys on the amazing video you made and if any of you haven’t seen it maybe you can put the link in the chat it’s the the former
Yugoslavia what’s it what’s what’s the title of it oh okay well what how do people find it what’s the name what’s the name of the ensemble well X I don’t know I just interested in coordinate might be after Jeff okay well when you see it you’ll love it it was great it was great manana cos can you play another model
Alexander in your orchestra or only 103 Stephan that’s one for you um well when I first started in in New York so we didn’t they were only two people playing Alexander 103 s and then it gradually more people played one or threes I don’t think it’s really necessary if one sounds exactly the way one needs to sound on a different horn it’s not it’s not a rule that one has to play and 1:03 it just makes a lot of things easier when we have the same instruments it’s easier to to blend their certain intonation and and sound when one plays in the soft dynamic and
Crescendo still to allow their dynamic that as a section that sort of thing is easier this is the same Hornet remember back when I was a student in the Cleveland Orchestra everyone was playing a con hey Dee you know it there’s something to be said for having this same kind of instrument in this section if one wants to have the optimal blend and homogeneity of yeah no
I think it’s really I I love that and I realize when you ask that somebody else question about playing in other orchestras I’ve been playing a lot with Andrew Bain in the LA Phil recently because I adore them and they they’ve had some a couple of positions free and and I mean it’s wonderful play with them and no matter it’s great to play with really good players but when the whole section place the same horn that’s very special it’s just a lot less work it’s just easier to blend but
I mean I admire horn sections that I mean that you would never know that they all play on different instruments they play so well anyway I just noticed from me I have to be a little bit more careful when I’m playing with a different type of horn blending you know what I mean you guys I used to play on the
Melchior horn yeah because that was what would get ciphered the former principal horn player used and the Melfi was blended really well get an extra F thought of them then I was using the Melchior when everyone else was playing that Alexander’s for a while and I could play really loud but people weren’t really panicking me for playing louder than everyone else and so
I figured I would just try to make my life easier and use a horn that would really fit in the section better and and so I just it’s things some certain things are easier on the likes 1:03 you can compared to the Melchior like soft things delicate things playing melodies that sort of wasn’t it’s not quite as powerful the mail
Durrell’s a real cannon you know it’s it’s it’s a player is the deciding factor in equipment and pieces can make it easier yeah that’s what the player is the deciding factor and also your idea of horn sound because if you look at our section you know we’ve got and raised from Sylvania I’m from England you’re from America you know your
Highnesses from Germany Stefan Germany it’s sort of like such a mixed mixed bag but we all play with the same sort of style and it’s not that we tried to do that that’s just the way we play you know that that’s just our style and there are preferred is the film we are acoustics in the film Mooney the fact that we don’t have a wall to bounce our sound off of yeah if we play like one duds in many orchestras with a medium dynamic we will get lost in the film or me because this the horns are notoriously there’s not really much wall for us
To reflect off unless one is sitting the third and fourth ones or sometimes close and we have to be careful that the this section balance is good but basically we have to play even today with quite a bit more sound than and sound and I must say brilliance then in a lot of orchestras because otherwise the sound will just not cut through you
Hannes you’re taking notes yes of course Andrzej listen um oddvar da da Pardo three glava I found out now blog Oh JA blog or ja Vasilevsky has put up the link thank you blah blah blah blah gorgeous at the right he has a fantastic budgerigar who poses for all ourselves you guys I think I think we’ve got to wrap this up now but um a couple of really quick questions
I think we can just answer Jeremy do you use the same use with your 103 no we all use the mutes we like the best and which sound the best do you think that the same brand of the mouthpiece makes a difference like the type of different horn types of course what do you guys think just a quick one on the mouthpieces definitely makes a big difference yeah
I think so I mean we the American mouthpieces you can look at some previous hangouts we’ve done I think last week Stefan was talking about the difference between the American shaped mouthpieces and the funnel ones in which work better with the German horns and a nice question to finish off with from Eddie do you think your horn section is more tightly knit than other sections of the orchestra it seems this way the horn section whole sections are special don’t you think yeah
I think we I would say yes the many snip more than many sections why do you think that is well I think it’s the intrinsic nature of horn playing one has to play as a team and when one’s planning in the section one has to help once colleagues it’s if one is a good section player one makes the people around could be on either side sound their best and and this kind of teamwork is takes a lot of concentration and sometimes very nice to relax after a concert with such concentration especially if it goes well and have like a nice beverage like you know he
Or a coal I mean a beer or wine afterwards to celebrate then I think this leads to certain enough friendships in in the section and you know we like you know food is also a good a common factor people like to cook and eat together I mean these guys so I think those are some of the factors that lead to the the closeness in the horn section yeah here here a new
