[Music] cheers Tim kids first question the first question this one hang out goes to handsome Tim what do you think Stephanie buy good the first question it’s absolutely today is that Tim Tim day it is from Margaret she says handsome Tim would you rather get up early for a hangout or stay up late for one well to be honest sometimes those really early morning ones

I was actually staying up all night anyway so always always up later oh my goodness me great stuff on what do you think of 3 p.m. in the afternoon um actually I think it’s quite nice I did most of my daily work already except I have to go online and teach a bit more but only one hour and a half two hours tonight but then

I’m free and I don’t have to wait till 9 o’clock to have my first range ok Tim all right who’s drinking water hello all you corn hangout is up there hello to the ones on the website also watch if you want to join in the live chat then pop over to the website we have all your questions here

Oh upside down but we have all your questions here so who’s drinking what handsome Tim I’ve got what a lovely beer I love I love Oz jealous what builders tea is Tim it’s important builders tea I don’t know do you know what builders tears no well I don’t know why we call it builders tea in English it’s it’s basically

I don’t know why maybe maybe you shouldn’t say that it’s against builders I don’t know but these days not allowed to say anything but it’s English breakfast tea with milk and sugar okay so maybe they need to submit you have to get through the day because they are out working not as we just not sitting around in which builders you sort of imagine nevermind let’s let’s not go to how is everybody today let me tell you where everyone is waiting from espresso

Michael is drinking espresso orange pekoe tea wait where’s that where’s CT Connecticut Margaret says beautiful flowers Thank You Brenda hi Brenda house your house Sebastian B Stefan’s disappeared oh no you’re there Tim’s already I’m there how is Sebastian the guinea pig Hannah from Bavaria the beard is back I think she means yours not mine I hope it’s not back actually hasn’t gone away it’s like there’s no it’s not there i shortened it a bit today but so like it’s not really growing everywhere that

Clinton Connecticut Jan oh that’s where you come from Elizabeth from Bologna Italy a late and enthusiastic beginner at 54 that’s great that’s what we like to hear she has a question for us Tara Stefan and Sarah do you think that if there isn’t a horn as an instrument for left-handed people actually that’s an interesting thing I hadn’t no not really doesn’t matter does it no it’s we are not moving our fingers very fast most other times the time

Jorge from spank for f1 Patrick from Canada I love all these Poland Karolina fruit T Annika in Cape Town Hannah’s drinking milk okay a divin Oh how’s Devon I do like Devon have you been to Devon before no Devon is beautiful I’m sorry what did you eat oh we actually I guess I’ll have a hand a cuppa tea hello where’s your one hangouts

Mike oh you don’t have one do you it’s on the other side my god children made me that’s actually very funny and we did we look they really worked hard on it look at that showed up at my door we we met on the street we kept where I couldn’t even hug them it was awful we did an elbow bump these and they’d put them down to the doorstep and

I picked them up and I just thought they were just so cute don’t you think yeah look what happened here all right can I can you see you know it looks like sushi oh no the leg what’s that that’s actually the street 3 for Easter bunnies chased by a hot rod the tulips it’s one of one of the toys of

Lucky’s like chasing around the Easter bunnies that’s cute everybody I thought actually to be honest it’s a little weird even having a holiday during these days because everyone was like yeah happy Easter but it it wasn’t much different from the other days except that I ate a lot of chocolate I only have one of these Easter bunnies and that was it but

I think we have enough cake we did try to make pizza we have a pizza stone for the barbecue so we tried that hard that was very unsuccessful the first two pizzas they serve almost better now was difficult was it was difficult to get that pizza on the pizza stone and so that it’s so yeah you had to slide on yeah and things some accidents what else do we like fish but mostly healthy hanged

Oh what did you say on I did I don’t know if any of you saw the digital concert on the weekend but we actually played together the four of us we played very far apart on the stage and Stefan and I did a little video for the digital concert hall and Stefan said what was it you said you hoped that a great belly makes a great sound yeah definitely definitely need some more vegetables

Charlotte and what is watching with her best friend Sydney from North Carolina Kylie and Matthew is from stubborn stubborn Gustav unga-bunga anyway yeah we’re really we were thinking about the future of the horn hangouts what we can offer you because often there are so many fantastic questions that come in that we don’t we don’t really get to them all and we’d love to but maybe we thought maybe we should base certain hangouts on certain things and then you can ask questions around that that topic and

I think today Maxime started off I have to scroll way back here she started off she’s in Switzerland and she said she doesn’t know if it’s a good question it’s a fantastic question Maxime but when you have several days of how do you organize your work your practice how many hours and what do you prefer to work

Stefan this is a really good question because to be honest I didn’t play very much either I’m in a flat here an apartment and everyone was home of course and I just didn’t feel like you know on on Easter Sunday and Good Friday that you could sort of play your your Vern reynolds attitudes it doesn’t really fit so what would you say we’re talking about all play no bother cooking anymore

I’m noticing first you go shopping and then you know soft you buy okay good yeah I think after you’re warming up what shouldn’t take too long we have I do a lot of daily exercises and actually that’s like two drops of scales but then I try to move at the moment to move everything a bit higher than usually

I don’t yeah so that I don’t need too much time to to get the tension that I usually have form or something so so I can I can like train my muscles earlier I don’t I don’t stop always on the sea I start like on the F and then go up of course I also need the low register but

I don’t meet that too much but for keeping the muscles up I try to play a love like highest things sometimes so for example like what first a bit slower I would like I would like to join in with you but you know where that that we know what happens when I try that it doesn’t work but but like really unsustained notes so that

I have a little bit of like this Orchestra yes you have to go keep going and play a bit of that so that yeah at some times some points of the day you’d sort of like reach the sort of tireless you don’t just play along you have to you have to give a bit a bit of coke you have to give it bit ago what yeah yeah the thing is when

I when I get back to playing after a few days I mean I tried to do a little bit on one day I think he’s to Sunday I just played with the mute which of course is not great on Easter Monday I made their neighbors listen to me but it was only about 20 minutes half an hour cuz it was just it was just not not the right time so today when

I let rip I play I warmed up loudly I really you know like I know wouldn’t normally do because just I was just enjoying playing loudly and off I got really tired really quickly yeah me too stop nodes the stop nodes is good what for me for example one of the bids that also is like really tiring is playing second movement off mode so for really good for the we talked about this and in one of the first hangouts that we did two weeks ago three weeks ago

I’ve lost count um and and we use you suggested hands popping pieces but not changing the note so not transposing like we have yeah yeah so a lot of people have asked about hand stopping and and and there’s some good tips from from from us on the on previous hangouts we won’t go into that now but basically seal that off as best as you can and practicing stop you have to practice top notes be able to do it you know but also know if you don’t if it don’t do exercises your neighbours will less be offended if you play a nice melody so it’s true

That they like more melody so at the moment try to I try to play like a bit of fast contralto stopped I mean they can’t they might hardly hear it but there will be more annoyed by them by Nature hopefully totally true lucky doesn’t like you practicing hands stop though no no immediately starts yeah I know I tried the problem is when you’re getting back into shape today

I practice in a bigger room so I was fine but in the smaller rooms to practice I need this loud playing we need it for the orchestra there’s just no other way for people who are getting back in shape that are maybe not that advanced that don’t have to play like six hours a day in an orchestra but are playing for fun like our friend who’s just back to the horn or maybe more more beginners or high school players this ba ba ba ba ba is really like what they’re told to do and we have to pick

I know that’s why I say I’m just just grab whatever you play and play it stop with your fear this might be a bit disturbing soda because insults that have not higher but actually actually it’s quite nice to do that you will feel great impressive you still have a good yeah this is still good lip but I must say

I feel like I’m losing it because I’m not playing the orchestra and it was funny when we did the bit on the digital concert hall you can go back and watch it it was on the concept that was on on Friday we played some Bruckner and Dante and we played it through and then then the the sound guy said okay so we’ve got that now play it properly you were like oh yeah yeah yeah and then what happened was he played like three times or four times and then we all went out and then said oh no we need it enough for the camera so

That yeah yeah I find that the low range gets a little wobbly are at the middle range especially gets a little wobbly err when I’m out of practice and when I’ve come back from a long break so the answer to Maxine’s questions how many hours don’t overdo it if you’ve had a big if you’ve had a big break but

I find if I have to get back into shape quickly I practice until that feat you know the feeling with the mouthpiece is about to fall you know your lips are about to fall off the mouthpiece and I take it off have a little rest and then play some more because those final moments of getting endurance you can’t practice at the beginning we all know it’s very hard well that’s how

I say also sustained no it’s like all sustained the notes you play but features play from low to high let’s stay on the higher just a bit longer to do them just a bit slower or whatever just to get like it usually was that one with the with a starting the high and then going down again doo-doo-doo-doo that one’s quite [Music] but

I only go like down like Quinn so five notes and then this one is even in piano quite demanding if you go higher you can use it in the in the middle register as well to get that that sort of wobbliness also but that’s really useful and loud that’s you to fit stuff so except on and I know

Francis hello Francis he can’t use his hands to hand stop and is using a mute better or worse for the sound that’s what he has to use and wonder if the sound would be better with the hand Francis you don’t have a choice you know you you have to use your mute and if why not practice with a mute people who can use their hands to hand stop it’s good practice for them but for people that can’t obviously use a mutant and it’s still good for your chops as

Francis having stopped you - yes yes that’s what he means Oscar stop you’d okay it’s quite the same as the hand actually it creates the same resistance you know yeah amateur utility shape shipping D that’s a very very big name to speak I know you’re invest ended in Berlin he’s got a good question when we’re getting back into shape when do we know when to stop because of fatigue it’s an important thing because a lot of students don’t know when to stop and then they’re like oh

I’ve injured myself I think if you feel I mean you usually you you feel if you have still the control over the sound and like if it that gets like away then stop and reset it a couple of knots lower or maybe even have a cup of tea in between and then start again with Sparrow - two - yeah - stop earlier than to lay two lanes always like

I can throw it back a couple of days our colleague a oaks reckon burger he is he changed his whole practice routine and he is a big believer in a lot of risks so he’ll like do ten minutes put it away I’m not patient enough for that and I also don’t have that much time so I do it all in one go until

I feel really tired then I’ll have a rest and then as I say go back and do do a little bit more well spaced practices may be good yeah I think I mean if you have the time now and say okay I prefer to to do everybody’s a bit different I prefer to do three times 45 minutes then and then the other one says like no

I want to do one and a half hours one time the evening or something I can’t do more than three hours at the moment neither can i I couldn’t it even close my neighbors were like I take I take a lot of repertoire that haven’t done haven’t played for a long time and just read it through again that’s like oh look there’s a

I I’m enjoying that I’m really enjoying that and I found you know member that app that stuff on your desk II it played us that piece with on the global horn party remember that I real I real pro or something I’ve been playing stormy weather and somewhere over the rainbow box oh it’s so much fun and there’s all sorts of

Latin stuff and check it out you guys it’s really nice but as I am Otto has written a good question what are some of the exercises of your daily routine that you must do even with a little amount of daily practice it’s true everybody has their must do exercises I have mine you have your sorrows there I get stuck but

I use that as to measure where my problems are today you know if I’m feeling stiff than the high notes won’t work if I’m feeling and not practice the middle range so that told me like around there you know that that’s for me so I have to do these you know I would practice stance top notes to be honest in the middle range to make sure though the buzz comes back that’s mine and it goes higher and higher

I’m Dell one day [Music] exactly I can’t do it either you know it’s re very good really good place really Froy displays it brilliantly but for me it’s a humble short killer because and especially when I see students doing it who just want to get the notes so they go that looks very nice and do it again no big

I washed my hands though that’s gonna be the screenshot for today so um there must I think I think in a must-do of things when you’re getting back into shape you need to just because we say what we do doesn’t mean it’s right thing for you you know it’s it’s um I think a little bit of flexibility a little bit of slurring

I like Stefan and I both like to bend the notes don’t we we like to just stamp exercise the the high the low everything yeah this octave [Music] you know beer changes aren’t think oh these where were you this day sometimes they’re different so yeah try to expand the changes exactly but it may be when you’re getting back into shape is not the time to do everything all your high seeds and all our peril geez you know they don’t work that well anyway when you’re trying to get back into shape for me

Stefan goes up and I go down so I I really try and do something I’m trying to get back into shape I can’t really play very loud in here that I can see they look at their lights flickering but and then hold it on the bottom note on the F horn because that that gives you holding no notes on the f1 gives you more at try it try it on the

E flat changing on to the two and three it control and control inside so yeah good great yeah that’s good the thing is don’t make life easy for yourselves you know we horn play always play something fun every day but if you’re trying to get better just playing things you can play doesn’t really help that much no no no it’s always the challenge to the problems you always get lazy and lazy and then then

I just pull out hiding you know hidin comes out of the slow movements now I really like give you a bit more tension in the lips that’s so I mean there are no secret tips apart from you have to practice to get back into shape I mean that is basically what we need there’s been quite a lot of questions right now about practice mutes and and stopping these we actually covered these on the first couple of hangouts that we did so if you go back into the on the horn hangout page they’re all archived now step and you have to

I hope I’d spent that was my Easter homework is archiving all of there’s a great screen shot of you with the feather for one of them that’s great I clean down I’ve still got my my my Walker puku here from another horn hangout the weirdest is oh and something else I found you ready for this you guys we mentioned this in a hangout bit to the side yeah that’s very nice yeah my reading glasses perfect so we actually predicted this was all gonna happen it was on something that is that is 15 years of ten years ago ages ago when

I both had dark hair yeah but actually we did we do take them we did take the face all the time that was actually one of the best tips that you gave me was using these moisture masks from the Japanese moisture mask on long flights and now no one’s gonna think twice about them you feel a little bit weird if you don’t what

I mean people Albert Meyer uses them all the time on flights and they really help they really are you don’t dry all that much I’m not sure if they help that much against the coronavirus so you read all sorts of different things so anyway Tabitha’s just written in saying it’s like having a speed summary of the entire four weeks of quarantine coming from the next room nice - changing you’re making us some cake don’t stop her from baking stop stop the baking

I’m yeah but you said great belly has a great sound so I think it’s not the Hulk Muntz and then his belly was impressive speaking of norbert help man Stefan I have a special treat for us tomorrow tomorrow at the same time 3 p.m. we are going to be joined by Andrew Zeus and stephania Suzuki I’ve got a test we know

Stefan knows how to use zoom because he was on the horn party last two weeks ago with his wine at three o’clock in the afternoon he’s going to bring coffee and maybe and Andrews never used it before so when we finish this hangout we’re going to get get back it’s a go go and test it with him so that’ll be nice okay great how does a

Berlin fulfill horn section work who decides what you play how do you divide this low and I who does what repertoire how does it work with principal horns is the third who own a principal horn is a second horn of Hawthorne so I just thought we could answer that all together sure easy that’s a nice yeah so questions about the on section can be yeah filled in now and we so like and of course during this if you have those questions now get them in this was just we have to actually stop after 30 minutes because handsome

Tim was streaming he live streamed a marathon a 48-hour marathon over the weekend of brass band playing so he is absolutely shattered so I promised him today would I know I promised a monkey so then you’re back again hello yeah I fell asleep in between I’ve got a 48 off and rockin it was fifty fifty something else in the end tell us tell tell tell people how to find it online brass band calm but you spell band with

BA in because they were all canceled all the usually do every Easter but because it was canceled if you put together archives of the last what twelve years last twelve years last twelve years of performances and events and competitions and everyone got together and watched online so we we were watching here in the you know and I kept turning on see you can’t still be online and yes you were never sleep so today the short one everyone we we’re gonna be back here tomorrow with brother

Phil horn section and we really want to know from you this might go on for a while you know this lockdown we’re not quite sure how is it gonna but but what what do you want I think it’d be good if we based every hangout on on something except Friday nights Friday nights are party nights and this

Friday please tell all your trauma don’t worry all right don’t worry you’re welcome to join us but this Friday is the global trombone horn hangout you’ve all been asking for it I didn’t I have organized it and you will not believe the guest list great doesn’t mean we can get like day drinks at three o’clock or is it like back on mine no no no tomorrow you can have a day drink at three o’clock but your spot on

Friday I’m fine on Friday it’s 9 o’clock in the evening 9 o’clock it’s it’s perfect at the party see we’ll see you all then and that great Hadleys already written in a question from tomorrow and that’s fantastic oh and Briana says come for the band stay for the tea towels good girl Brianna do you have a tea towel there you can show oh

I don’t I keep selling out of all my details too bad Margaret says maybe for some future hangout could we watch you practice we’d have to turn off Netflix oh who said that no just a joke two iPads we’ll think about it Margaret I’m not quite sure my practice I’ve never been I don’t even like practicing in the horn room when other people are practicing

I’ve never been a group practice sir but I guess oh yeah I mean we come talk a lot some practice techniques sounds like how did this thing in the past warn hangouts you know oh that’s why it oh we can always start again if there’s more questions no I love those selfie time save your time let me take care of each other’s
