[Music] hello once again loyal brassband viewers tonight we’re having an interview with Robin lonstein who’s playing with the brew and dar bruss Robin how you going good thank you how’s Brew andar going uh pretty good we’re on track I think yeah so we’re about where we should be which is not peeking too early so you’re planning to peek in about two weeks time at

Easter we’re peeking at Easter it’s a gooded it’s a good time to piek and Robin what are you playing for your own choice a lot of people are very curious to know what Brew and’s playing for their own choice cuz last time bre and represented an own choice type program was at Fab with the entertainment contest and you did quite well you got you came third or fourth with that did you fifth

I think fifth pretty good so maybe fourth we’ll say fourth we’ll say fourth I can’t remember yeah um so what’s own choice for Nationals um we’re playing chivalry is that good yes it’s not it’s like it’s we’ve normally gone for like really technically challenging pieces and Danny always tries to pick ones that are like at the top like new ones but this is like a little bit of a easier one that to our strength so it’s easier technically but you know you got to be on your game to play it without mistakes is that how it is a bit challenging too onom ensembly challenging ensembly

Challenging for bur andar brass fingers crossed they get it right on the day now Robin what do you know much about the history of bur andar brass uh no yes yeah just because you know Victoria has six AGR bands um Brar is one of the six where did it come from there’s talk I think I’ve heard rumors it used to be like a q band and then it split apart to become its own fantastic entity it used used to be a youth band so it was just for kids and then all the kids got older and didn’t want to leave and so they just put

It into I think B grade and then they got to a grade after that so it’s only been around as bre and dar brass for about 10 years okay Dave wolf who’s our oldest member he plays bass trombone how how old long serving approximately oh no he just turned 31 just turned 31 he’s out well longest serving member and he was in it from when he was little so bur is probably the youngest a grade band going around the country uh probably yes

I would say yes formed and most of us like I looked around the other day and there’s not a gray hair in sight I think the average age is about 20 so that’s pretty good that’s excellent so Robin when can people see gar bras perform aside from Nationals do you have any big upcoming concerts coming up this year a website people should check out yes the purandara website which is updated by

Dave wolf which he doesn’t do very often um I can’t remember after Nationals I guess we always do all the regional contests like bendy and tralan and Ballarat um so we’ve got States we’re probably going to do a tour later this year because there’s no Fab everyone’s very sad that Fab’s not happening this year where are you going to tour two do you have plans is that sort of regional

Victoria overseas not overseas we went to New Zealand you yeah went to New Zealand last year so we’re kind of having a bit of a quiet year um I don’t know it’s still all in the works we might go to someone else’s States watch out or like a concert because otherwise you get to the end of the year and it’s just carols

G and then everyone’s so bur andar is not a fan of carols in general oh no carols are good but you don’t want to be practicing them for 4 months no well fingers crossed you don’t have to yes what are you playing for your Mar and your himm oh our him’s very exciting we’re playing we changed it in the 11th hour because it wasn’t sounding that good and now it starts with a four bar euphonium solo all by myself

Robin does play euphonium and we’ll be playing that solo line the first four I am like the first thing the adjudicator hears which is a little bit scary I’m like a bit freaking out but that’ll be all right that’s good so it’s um called Pastor Ro and that sounds nice and then our March is the president a classic there the present

I think we’re in for a cracker once again I know we’ve been practicing with the metronome but Danny blew a fuse in the speaker and so we can’t use the metronome anymore and this is your conducted Den yes so the speaker broke so no more metronome of death but we have the percussion section now so that’s what they for

I think the metronome of death is pretty popular with a lot of bands going around the country at the moment I think it is the doctor the old Dr beat keeping us in check we call it is Dr beat a new conductor now but uh Dr beat did keep us in check for a while until Danny broke the speaker so now but you can change it to the setting so it goes one 2 3 four it’s better than the just the normal ticks it’s good gives it a little bit of

Paz excellent and what’s going on I can hear some music coming out from behind us is this your band rehearsing or do you share your band hall with someone else um um we have a common war with hawthor band so really so you’re probably the closest AGR brass bands in the country if you’re sharing a wall probably so we can hear each other play the test piece through the wall which is a bit disconcerting do you guys rehearse on the same nights well not usually no but you’ve changed your nights to psych out

Hawthorn band is that what’s going on we are always Sunday and Wednesday every every week so obviously I don’t know they might be having a sectional or something sounds like some kind of instrument not that would want to say anything disparaging about the Hawthorne Brass Band of course not Robin thank great to hear them through the wall yay well

Ren thanks for joining us tonight good luck at Nationals I think everyone hopes you do you guys do really well is Australia’s youngest EG BR band
